No garbage disposal fix is a little issue. When your garbage disposal goes, it can take your dishwasher drainage and plumbing with it. Living without one can be a real pain, requiring you to clean your sinks out on a regular basis.
If you don’t have a garbage disposal and want one, we can help! Installing a new, state-of-the-art disposal is a quick and easy process.
It pays to keep your garbage disposal up and running.
It’s worth noting what should never go in a garbage disposal. Many people don’t realize that these machines are powerful, but just not powerful enough to take certain items. These include:
- Bones
- A tough vegetable matter like celery, potato peels, or corn husks
- Coffee grounds
- Egg shells
- Seeds, especially large ones
- Oil or grease
- Pasta
Small kitchen items like measuring spoons, may fall into the garbage disposal and can dull your blades when you accidentally turn it on. Which doesn’t do your spoons any favors either.
Sometimes dishes break when you pile them on. Glass clogs up the drainage, sticks in the blades, and is both dangerous and difficult to get out of the disposal. If you want your garbage disposal to last a long time, try to avoid big stacks of randomly piled dishes. At the very least, you should make sure delicate glassware is at the top of the pile.
What’s that noise?
When odd noises start coming from your garbage disposal, it’s usually a sign that something’s gotten stuck in the grinding chamber. If you can’t get it out safely yourself, we are happy to help.
Where’s the blockage coming from?
This could mean you have food in the trap pipe. This is often the result of small food waste like coffee grounds, pasta, and egg shells. It can also be the result of oil and grease, which solidifies and creates blockages.
What’s that smell?
This problem rarely requires the intervention of a handyman! You can usually take care of it yourself.
Food that gets stuck in the garbage disposal is prone to rotting there. Sometimes you can take care of the problem with some vinegar, dish soap, and lemon juice. It’s not a bad idea to run some ice cubes down the drain to sharpen the blades while you’re at it.
We find the leaks. Every one.
Your garbage disposal may need to be re-sealed. It may also need a new flange. This can also be a sign of larger problems with your dishwasher, which is definitely cause for you to call a handyman! Attempting to handle this one on your own could mean breaking your dishwasher too.
We repair or replace the disposal at the problem’s cause.
When minor repairs won’t fix the problem, we can help! Get a top-brand heavy-duty garbage disposal when yours just won’t work anymore. As long as you take care of it, your new garbage disposal should last at least 15 years.
Call now or log into your Personal Portal for Best Handyman Plan Priority Service. We’ll get back to you in 24-48 hours, even on the weekend.
