Bricks and Repointing
Are you starting to become concerned about cracks in your home’s brickwork? Brick homes are wonderful, but they’re not invincible.
While the bricks themselves will remain in good shape indefinitely, the mortar between the bricks is a little different. Eventually it wears out, which means moisture can work its way between the bricks. The water freezes in our Boston winter weather, causing cracks.
Over time, this condition can threaten the structural integrity of your home.
Repointing will fix the problem. This is the process of removing old mortar so we may replace it with new mortar.
Do you have a brick chimney? Chimneys may need repointing too. Given its role in removing carbon monoxide from your home when you use your fireplace, it’s absolutely vital for this job to be done correctly.
We provide help for new homes, and old.
Historical homes need different care and treatment than newer homes. 50 years ago, masons used different mortar and brick material. Mixing the old with the new can cause significant problems with your building.
We’re experts in restoring both kinds of homes, which means you can feel confident your home will be in great shape by the time the work is done.
We have restored historic homes all over Boston. When you call Best Handyman Boston you can be sure the damage will be completely fixed, rather than exacerbated in a manner that ultimately destroys your home.
It’s a complex job, but we’ve got you covered.
Repointing is more than just putting some new mortar on your building. We must remove the old mortar from the joints and do so in the appropriate pattern and at the appropriate depth.
We then have to make sure we layer the mortar correctly so that each brick fits snugly into place.
We even make sure to match the shades of the new mortar to the old mortar to ensure your brickwork looks incredible.
Finally, we add a waterproof sealant to the brickwork to give your home some additional protection.
All of these steps take craftsmanship and knowledge to ensure an outstanding end result. Our 20+ years of experience with remodeling projects and historic home restorations means you get peace of mind, knowing you’ve hired professionals who are capable of getting the job done right.
If your brickwork is pitted and cracked, don’t delay.
